Why people are praising Princess Beatrice for her wedding reading

Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding to Jack Brooksbank was full of sweet moments, but her sister’s reading seemed to be particularly poignant.

Princess Beatrice, who was Maid of Honour for Eugenie, stood up to do a reading of F. Scott Fitzgerald's book, The Great Gatsby, in front of 850 guests, including the Queen. She read beautifully, and while we’d have all been shaking with nerves Beatrice was the epitome of cool, calm and collected - an achievement made even more impressive when it’s remembered that the princess has dyslexia.

Princess Beatrice's reading was a big topic on social media immediately afterwards, with many wondering why she chose to read from the novel.

However Rebecca English, royal correspondent for Daily Mail, shared part of the service revealing the sweet reason for the choice: the description of Jay Gatsby's smile reminds Eugenie of her new husband's.

"It was soon after she and Jack had first met that Princess Eugenie read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. One particular passage in which Jay Gatsby is described reminded her immediately of Jack," the order of service for the wedding read.

"She decided that she wanted eventually to let Jack know how much those words had brought him to mind. That is why they have had a special place (as the second reading) in today's wedding service."
