What Princess Beatrice's new title might be

Princess Beatrice, the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, has become engaged to her Italian billionaire boyfriend overnight. Along with the couple's exciting news comes big plans for the future – including a decision about Beatrice's new title.

According to The Express, it is likely the 31-year-old will follow in her younger sister's footsteps and become Princess Beatrice, Mrs Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. However, it is also possible the ninth in line for the throne could take on a title from her husband-to-be.

Unlike Princess Eugenie's husband Jack Brooksbank, "Edo" has his own royal title of Count, which means Beatrice may very well become Countess.

Beatrice and Edoardo announced their engagement overnight with official statements from Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Edoardo's parents, and from the happy couple themselves. Official photos were also released, showing off Beatrice's dazzling ring.

"We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride," the Duke and Duchess of York said in their statement.

"We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man."

Edoardo's parents echoed the sentiment in their message about Beatrice, who they "have known for most of her life."

"Edo and Beatrice are made for each other, and their happiness and love for each other is there for all to see," Mrs Nikki Williams-Ellis and Mr Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi said.

The pair's whirlwind romance began a year ago, although they have been family friends for years.

It is rumoured the pair became engaged earlier in the year while holidaying in Italy, with the palace keeping it a secret.
