Prince William gets special gift as he visits his old workplace

Prince William appeared in his element as he visited his old workplace in Wales on Tuesday.

The Prince of Wales made a trip to RAF Valley, where he was stationed between 2010 and 2013 as a search and rescue helicopter pilot.

It marked the first time Prince William has been at the base since taking over the role of Royal Honorary Air Commodore, RAF Valley, from his dad, King Charles, last August.

As the 42-year-old spoke to those stationed at the base now, the relaxed royal was seen sipping a cup of tea from a new mug.

It's understood the new cup was a gift from RAF Valley personnel to their former workmate.

Alongside the logo of the XXV Fighter Squadron the mug had "HRH Prince of Wales" written across it.

A fan account on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, pointed out it was a very different title on the mug to one he had while working there, which read: "Big Willy".

Prince William laughed and listened intently as he heard about life at RAF Valley, 11 years after he left.

The Prince of Wales toured the base during his visit, starting with the air traffic control tower.

He then took part in a simulated fire response exercise at the base's fire and rescue section.

Looking like a kid in a candy store, the royal was seen grinning from ear to ear as he sat in the front of the firetruck.

Prince William then headed airside and looked at some of the aircraft - standing on the wing of a RAF Short Tucano trainer aircraft at one point and looking in the window.

RAF Valley is the only Royal Air Force station in Wales and is home to No.4 Flying Training School (4FTS), which is responsible for training the UK's next generation of world-class fighter pilots.

While there, Prince William presented Flight Lieutenant Jake Fleming with The Prince of Wales Award, which recognises the best qualified flying instructor within 4FTS each year.

The prince lived in Anglesey with wife Kate, then Duchess of Cambridge, as newlyweds in 2011.

The couple have often talked fondly about their time there and how much they enjoyed settling into married life in the small Welsh community.
