Prince William's New Zealand visit: Itinerary revealed

Christchurch is welcoming Prince William back today, exactly five years after his last visit.

The Duke of Cambridge's two-day trip, on behalf of The Queen and at the request of New Zealand Prime Minister Jacina Ardern, will include a number of official engagements in the community affected by the mass shooting last month, which claimed the lives of 50 people.

This will include meeting with survivors, their families and first responders for both the Al Noor and Linwood mosques.

The Duke will be flying into Auckland first, where he will attend and Anzac Day Service at the War Memorial.

The 36-year-old is expected to make a visit to Christchurch this afternoon to visit those affected by the recent terrorist attacks in the South Island city which killed 50 and left many others injured.

"[He] will pay tribute to the extraordinary compassion and solidarity that the people of New Zealand have displayed in recent weeks," the initial announcement from the Palace stated.

Wills previously visited the city following the 2011 earthquake disaster.

"The Duke has a close connection with New Zealand and in particular Christchurch," Ms Ardern said in a statement announcing the Royal's visit.

"His visit provides the opportunity to pay tribute to those affected by the mosque terrorist attacks and show support to the local and national community.

"We welcome this visit by His Royal Highness and know it will bring comfort to those affected."

Prince William's last visit to the country was with the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George in April 2014, when they also toured Australia.

The Duchess of Cambridge will also attend an Anzac Day service today, at London's Westminster Abbey.
