Prince William travelled to South Africa solo for a week of summits and events centred around his annual competition to find feasible solutions to the climate crisis.
Together with The Royal Foundation, the awards were created in 2020 and offers £1 million ($1.96 million) cash prizes to help winners to bring their inventions to market.
This is the first time the awards are being held in Africa and last year were held in Singapore, with Prince William also attending solo.

While Kate's been off work most of the year battling the undisclosed cancer, she has begun making a gradual return to work since announcing the end of her treatment in September.
The Princess of Wales made a surprise appearance alongside Prince William to Southport, meeting with the families of kids killed in a knife attack on a school holiday workshop.
The couple also met with frontline workers who were thrust from the initial attack into riots around town as a result of the attack.
Kate is planning her annual Christmas concert at Westminster Abbey, which will take place in December but royal fans may catch a glimpse of her before then.
It is hoped the Princess of Wales will be able to attend Remembrance Sunday events alongside members of the royal family, Telegraph UK reports.
