Prince William received a double blow last year when both his father and wife were diagnosed with cancer.

King Charles III was diagnosed in February 2024, while Catherine, Princess of Wales was diagnosed one month later in March 2024. The types of cancers were undisclosed

Royal expert Robert Jobson claims in his new book The Windsor Legacy the 43-year-old wanted to step back from duties after the internal crisis left him "shaken to the core".

However, his father firmly denied the request, according to the excerpt of the book obtained by the Daily Mail.

The health issues also made the Prince and Princess of Wales turn to religion, the book says.

"Never known as a regular worshipper, William now attends church more frequently than in the past, though as privately as possible," Jobson wrote.

William was unable to attend the latest engagement with his family, sending his twelve-year-old son in his stead.

His inclusion is a sign that he is gradually being eased into royal life, with several public appearances this year.

William was at the time in Brazil, presenting the Earthshot Prize and attending the United Nations Climate Change Conference.

While there, the dad-of-three was probed by a reporter aiming to get a response from him about his uncle, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, being stripped of all of his titles.

The reporter asked about all the change happening recently in the family, not mentioning Andrew.

The question didn't disrupt Prince William's composure; he instead provided a sharp, poignant response focused entirely on the issue.

"I think The Earthshot Prize is a classic example of change. Rather than talk about it, we're doing it, and that's where I want it to be," he replied.
