Why William and Kate's sporting rivalry to be in full swing this weekend

Prince William and Kate Middleton are set for a fun date night this weekend.

The duo will attend the England vs Wales Six Nations match at London's at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday but the pair will be rivals throughout the game.

The Duchess of Cambridge recently took over from Prince Harry as Patron for the Rugby Football Union, which represents Team England.

This will be Kate's first match for the team in her official capacity, since the announcement was made earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the Duke of Cambridge has been been Patron of the Welsh Rugby Union since 2016.

So, the couple will be pitted against one another on the field but the competitive pair enjoy their sporting rivalries.

In the past, they've gone head-to-head in the King's Cup regatta off the Isle of Wight in August 2019.

William led his team on behalf of charity Child Bereavement UK, of which he is Patron, while Kate competed for the Royal Foundation.

Prince William came in joint third but Kate's team ended up in last place, with the Duchess giggling as she accepted the wooden spoon from Bear Grylls.

William and Kate also competed in a sprint, together with Prince Harry, back in 2017 at a training day for their Heads Together team at Olympic Park, ahead of the London Marathon.

The couple showed their playful rivalry as both William and Kate jokingly tried to keep each other back before the race began.

The couple have also come together in sport as well — famously cheering on Team GB at the London Olympics in 2012 and regularly attending events like Wimbledon finals together.
