Prince William's 'heartbreaking' call to first responders of Australian floods

Prince William has shared a "heartening" call he had with some of the first responders who worked to help victims during the recent Australian floods.

In a YouTube video posted to the Prince and Princess of Wales' channel, William, 40, invited the first responders to the floods that have been ravaging Australia to speak about their experiences.

Business owners, frontline responders, and representatives of local and Indigenous communities from all around the country were chosen to speak with the future King.

Among the guests were Daniel Cleave and Curtis Arthur, owners of a small business in Shepparton, Victoria; Grace Langlands, a member of the North South Wales State Emergency Service; Maureen Carter, CEO of the Nindilingarri Health Service in the Kimberly Region of Western Australia; and Brad Flowers, owner of the Overland Corner Hotel, Upper Murray, South Australia.

"Heartening but heartbreaking to speak with some of those affected by the serious flooding in Australia," the Prince of Wales wrote in a tweet.

"As ever, their sense of community and selflessness is humbling, but it is terrible that such devastation seems to be occurring more often."

The Australians shared incredible stories of their heroic acts during the disaster, with one man revealing he was delivering basic goods to people on a canoe just one day before his son was born.

"You've got people like you looking out for each other and supporting each other, that is what really matters," responded the Prince.

Langlands, meanwhile, described to William the scenes she experienced first-hand as a first responder during the floods.

"The only way I can describe it is like walking into a warzone. Just the amount of force and cars on top of cars and just never actually realising the power behind water," she said.

"Please make sure you are looking after yourselves and those in your community who need it, because some people will be suffering in silence and I just want to make sure you are looking after yourselves as well as each other," William insisted.
