Prince William looks just like the rest of us as he tries out Virtual Reality

Prince William proved he's just like the rest of us as he tried out a Virtual Reality set up in the north of England.

The dad-of-three donned the "larger than your face" googles and looked just as silly as we all do wearing them, even in spite of his sharp tailored suit.

The Duke of Cambridge enjoyed the immersive experience in what appeared to be an orchestral setting, judging by the trumpeters shown on-screen.

It was all a part of his visit to the research & development facility PROTO: The Emerging Technology Centre, where he also unveiled a plaque that officially opened the tech hub.

His VR experience came shortly after a meet and greet with school children, who are performers in the CoMusica program, helping young people experiencing problems.

The 6ft 2in Prince towered over the young ones but delightedly bent down to chat to them and was seen having a laugh.

Also on the agenda for the tour is a reception to acknowledge those putting the exhibition together, including volunteers, at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.

And rounding out the day, the 36-year-old will visit Ryder Architecture Cooper's Studios to look at what they believe is the future of travel - a Hyperloop.

This futuristic transport would send electric run pods through tubes at speeds of over 1,000kmph, like something out of the Jetsons.

The Duke of Cambridge is touring parts of Newcastle and Gateshead to open The Great Exhibition of the North - a three-month showcase of art, culture, design & innovation in northern parts of England.

The Great Exhibitions were created by William and Harry's fourth great-grandfather, Prince Albert, in 1851 and takes place approximately once every 50 years, according to Kensington Palace.
