Prince William reveals new arrivals in birthday portrait taken by Kate

It's one of the most unguarded and down to earth photos we've seen of the British heir-to-the-throne, Prince William.

So it's perhaps no surprise to hear that the person responsible for the new birthday portrait of the Prince of Wales is his wife, Kate.

Catherine, Princess of Wales took the photo of the father-of-three, who turns 43 today, surrounded by their new puppies at their home in Windsor earlier this month.

It's understood the family's black cocker spaniel, Orla, gave birth to four puppies last month - three of which are seen in the photo.

"Happy birthday! Love C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies!," the caption on social media said, using initials for Catherine, and their three kids - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The 43-year-old can be seen sitting with his legs stretched out in the grass as he plays with the dogs, wearing blue jeans and a casual green shirt for the off-duty look.

Prince William is also sporting his now-famous beard, that's gone for a summer holiday look to a mainstay for the royal.

King Charles' social media accounts also shared a birthday message for His Majesty's son and heir.

"Happy Birthday to The Prince of Wales!," the caption said.

The more traditional portrait appeared to be taken by a professional photographer, though no credit was provided.

Along with opting for a more official caption, using William's title rather than his name, the photo chosen shows the royal in a shirt and trousers for a more formal look as well.

It's not the first time Kate has shared her photography skills with the world to help Prince William celebrate a personal moment.

In the past, the Princess of Wales has taken the family photos shared for Father's Day and Christmas.

The royal's also often behind the camera for her childrens' birthday photos as well.

However, following a photoshop incident last year while undergoing cancer treatment, the princess took a step back from her unofficial photography duties.

Although, the photo released for Princess Charlotte's 10th birthday in May saw Kate return to her role.

Orla, the family's second dog following the loss of Lupo in 2020 - who was a wedding gift to the prince and princess from Kate's brother James Middleton - came to the family in 2021.

But it wasn't until May 2022 Orla's name was revealed and she made her public debut, featuring in Princess Charlotte's seventh birthday portrait.

Prince George will be the next of the couple's kids to celebrate their birthday, with the heir turning 12 on July 22.
