Charles and Camilla, William and Kate respond to Prince Philip's death

Members of the British royal family have responded to the death of Prince Philip on social media.

The Twitter and Instagram accounts for Prince Charles and Camilla, and Prince William and Kate have both shared the official announcement of the Duke of Edinburgh's death on April 9 at age 99, originally posted by the Royal Family account.

On Twitter, the banner image for both accounts has also been changed to a black-and-white portrait of the Queen's late husband.

"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh," the official statement reads.

"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."

The accounts are yet to share more personal tributes from the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall and Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Prince Charles had visited Prince Philip during his month-long hospital stint this year, driving to London's King Edward VII's hospital from his Gloucestershire home to see his father in February.

Prince William shared a warm relationship with his grandfather, who he once described with "just one word — legend!"

In a 2018 speech, William praised the duke's "tireless" service to the public.

"My grandfather Prince Philip has been one of the most tireless public servants of this country, deeply committed to helping young people fulfil their potential," he told the Charity Commission Annual Public Meeting.
