The latest portrait of Denmark's Prince Nikolai has royal fans all in a tizzy

Prince Nikolai of Denmark continues to melt hearts, with the latest portrait of the dashing royal sending fans into a spin.

The photo was released by the Danish Royal Family in honour of Nikolai's 19th birthday on Tuesday August 28.

Fans were quick to gush over the image, with many labelling Princess Mary's nephew "handsome", "dapper" and even "sexy". 

Since Prince Harry married Meghan Markle in May, Nikolai has quickly stepped into the role of the most eligible royal bachelor. 

The eldest son of Prince Joachim and his first wife, Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg, is currently seventh in line to the Danish throne.

A recent graduate of the Herlufsholm Boarding School, Nikolai is already making his mark on the fashion world as a model.

Earlier this year, Nikolai signed a modelling contract with Scoop Models in Denmark.

"The decision was made a while ago with both his parents' support and encouragement," Scoop Models Agency Director Bente Lundquist told InStyle in a statement. 

"He has signed up with Scoop Models Denmark, and they were the agency which proposed Prince Nikolai."

Nikolai also walked in the much-watched Burberry AW18 fashion show, the last one from designer Christopher Bailey.

The brand said it was "delighted to have Prince Nikolai of Denmark walking in today's runway show, which marks a special moment in time for the brand."

Unlike the sixth-in-line to the British throne, Prince Harry, Nikolai is not required to perform royal duties, meaning his career path is clear.

"He must not be forced into anything," his father, Prince Joachim told Billed-Bladet.

With a number of Instagram fan accounts dedicated to the young prince, it seems his star is just starting to rise.
