Prince Harry's highly-anticipated memoir will be titled Spare and published on January 10, 2023, publishers have confirmed.

Penguin Random House confirmed the date along with the title, a pointed reference to the Duke of Sussex's place in the line of succession.

"We are excited to announce the remarkably personal and emotionally powerful story of Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex," the publisher said on Thursday.

Alongside a cover of the book, they wrote in all caps, "His words. His story", and pointed fans to the memoir's own website.

The website reveals the text will be translated into 15 different languages and describes the book: "With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief."

Confirmation of the book's release date comes after delays in the publication.

The tell-all was originally due to be out by the end of the year but was put on hold after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September.

The Duke of Sussex was said to be making edits to the book, attempting to tone down any criticisms of the royal family.

He and wife Meghan were reportedly paid £36.8 million ($60 million) from publishers Penguin Random House for a three-title deal, starting with a nearly £18.4 million ($40 million) advance.

On the new website for Spare, the publishers said Prince Harry would be donating part of the proceeds from the book to two British charities very close to his heart.

"The Duke of Sussex has donated $US1,500,000 ($2.33 million) to Sentebale, an organisation he founded with Prince Seeiso in their mothers' legacies, which supports vulnerable children and young people in Lesotho and Botswana affected by HIV/AIDS," the publisher says.

"Prince Harry will also donate to the non-profit organisation WellChild in the amount of £300,000 ($538,000)."

Prince Harry has been patron of WellChild for 15 years and it was one of the very few patronages he was allowed to keep after leaving his role as a senior working member of the royal family in 2020.

No details about the other two books are known publicly at this stage.

The publication will come just four months into the reign of Prince Harry's father King Charles.

The King will be crowned soon after, on May 6 at Westminster Abbey.

Buckingham Palace is yet to reveal details of the 2000-strong guest list but Prince Harry and Meghan are expected to once again join the royal family for the event.

But that could change depending on the contents of the book.

"Is his goal to enhance his celebrity with a certain sector of the public, or is it to repair the rift with his family?" literary agent Matt Latimer told the New York Times.

"Those are competing goals to some extent, and it's hard to do both."

In August, it was reported Prince Harry's relatives wouldn't be given an advance copy of his tell-all memoir and will have to find out its contents with the rest of the world.

Neither King Charles or Prince William had seen any part of the manuscript, nor have their lawyers or advisors.

The book is expected to further the rift between the Duke of Sussex and his family with Harry previously promising its contents to be "accurate and wholly truthful".

Those close to the King had hoped to be given advance warning to brace themselves but that has not happened, The Telegraph UK reports.

In late July it was reported by multiple media outlets that Prince Harry's book was "written and a finished manuscript signed off by lawyers".

But following the death of his grandmother, Prince Harry had sought to make immediate changes.
