What to expect from Harry and Meghan's sit-down with Oprah: 'Potential to be explosive'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have confirmed a long-time rumour — they are doing a sit-down interview with the one and only Oprah Winfrey.

Despite being a friend of the family, it's predicted the US TV presenter will draw out some hidden truths from the Sussexes' lives post-Megxit and their time in the British Royal Family.

The journalist who broke the news of the upcoming world exclusive to air as a 90-minute special on CBS said the interview has the potential to be "explosive".

"I think what you can expect from the interview is something pretty extraordinary," Chris Ship told Good Morning Britain.

"All of those things have the potential to be pretty extraordinary, perhaps even explosive."

However, the long-time royal reporter says the interview hasn't been filmed as yet and he doesn't think Prince Harry will do anything to jeopardise the monarchy or his Megxit anniversary negotiations.

"I don't think Harry going to do anything that will severely embarrass the Queen," he said, adding: "He still talks to the Queen on a fairly regular basis, that's the one connection he's maintained with his family over here."

Ship's appearance on Tuesday morning's show comes hours after he broke the news of the tell-all, which he claims on Twitter hadn't even been a done deal till after he approached those involved.

"The two sides hadn't even signed the final contracts when I first put my story to them," Ship said in response to claims he had simply seen the interview coming up on CBS's schedule.

The interview, to air on March 7 — exactly one year after their last public appearance as senior royals at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey — has reportedly got Buckingham Palace nervous, amid comparisons to Princess Diana's bombshell Panorama interview 25 years ago.

"One only has to look at the previous instalments of the tell-all interview to know these things never end up with a wholly positive experience for any party," one royal source reportedly told UK newspaper The Mirror.

"Everyone will be watching with intense interest."

In the announcement of the interview, the US network said it would be an "intimate conversation" between the royal couple and the presenter, who was a guest at their wedding in 2018.

"Winfrey will speak with Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, in a wide-ranging interview, covering everything from stepping into life as a Royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure," the press release from CBS stated.

"Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced on Valentine's Day that they are expecting their second child together later this year.

It will mark their first sit-down interview since their engagement interview in November 2017. It's not known if son Archie will make an appearance.
