Days after reports in the British press that Her Majesty had extended an olive branch to the Sussexes, there are contradictory claims from a US publication.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not receive an invite to visit Queen Elizabeth at her Balmoral Estate in Scotland, according to Page Six.

The publication says multiple sources confirmed "no such invite" to see the monarch, and the Duke of Sussex's grandmother, exists.

The reports overnight come after an insider at Balmoral told The Sun on Sunday: "Staff have been told to expect the full list of royals including Harry, Meghan and their children Archie and Lilibet."

The Queen spends the UK's summer months in Scotland, departing from Windsor Castle last Thursday and is expected to remain there for a 10-week stay.

Traditionally, members of the royal family take turns in visiting the monarch during her time there.

But it seems no Sussex holidays to Scotland are remotely on the cards, with Harry and Meghan to spend the summer in the US, according to the US publication.

However, it's unlikely the family will return to the UK anytime soon, with Prince Harry set to take on the Home Office in court over security arrangements.

Harry and Meghan visited London with their two children in June for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The couple attended Trooping the Colour festivities but remained away from public view, making their attendance at the Service of Thanksgiving the following day, on Friday, their only public engagement.

The couple reportedly flew back to the US before the pageant finished on the last day of celebrations and also skipped the races and Party at the Palace concert on Saturday, which was their daughter's first birthday.

While the two children were not seen publicly at any events, the couple released a photo of Lilibet taken during a small garden birthday party at their home of Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.
