Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry have returned home after their whirlwind tour of Australia, receiving a warm welcome from their children.

The royals were greeted with a surprise from their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who remained at home in Montecito, California during their trip Down Under.

A "welcome home" banner was hung at the door and the duchess also shared some behind the scenes snaps of the tour in a new reel too.

Like any parents, they didn't return home empty handed and it wasn't long before Meghan pulled out the souvenirs she brought home.

The haul included letters to Lilibet from fans, Australia-themed sticker books, and of course, a packet of TimTams that were immediately dug into.

The royal also posted a recap of the trip to her profile that features never before seen moments, captioned: "Australia, you have our hearts".

They took videos of the bustling city of Melbourne, a morning walk at Bondi Beach, an intimate dinner, and even Meghan doing her makeup in their hotel room in the morning with the sun beaming in.

By many accounts, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's tour was a roaring success, one that likely has the royal family thinking twice.

"Polarising but adored, Harry and Meghan have shown the Windsors what could have been during non-royal tour on their terms," said nine.com.au's royal reporter Natalie Oliveri.

"Prince Harry and Meghan are still serving, but in their own way. And they are still ticking all the boxes of what royals would usually do on a tour like this, but they are picking and choosing the agenda to suit their own.

"They have managed to achieve their half-in, half-out approach," she said.

"One can only imagine what King Charles and Prince William would make of it all."
