Four-year-old Prince George is experiencing his first royal backlash after he was pictured playing with a toy gun during his day at the polo.

The future king was seen pretending to shoot the toy as he spent the day with his mother, the Duchess of Cambridge and sister, Princess Charlotte. He also held a toy knife.

Some pointed out that crime has been on the increase in the UK this year.

However, many also rushed to defend Prince George and his parents, pointing out that the young royal will one day be Commander-in-Chief of the British Armed Forces.

Sarah Ockwell-Smith, parenting expert and author of The Gentle Discipline Book told The Independent, “I understand why gun play worries parents, however research shows that any aggression demonstrated while engaging in 'war play' is not carried over into real life. ie: kids who play with guns become no more violent than those who don't.”

George also spent a good portion of time playing with a giant rainbow-coloured slinky, and chasing his younger sister around.

We already know that Prince George loves to play with toys. On a visit to Finland last November, William met Father Christmas in Helsinki and was given instructions by his son to present Santa Claus with a Christmas list from George, which featured one request – a toy police car.
