Prince George destined to have a special relationship with King Charles

Prince George is destined to have a special bond with King Charles, as the monarch takes his grandson under his wing in keeping with the 10-year-old's place in the line of succession.

"It's very much a grandfather relationship with George at the moment, but as he gets older, the King will take on that mentoring role, much as the late Queen did with William," Robert Jobson, author of Our King: Charles III: The Man and the Monarch Revealed, told HELLO!

Prince George is next in line to the British throne after his father Prince William, and he was the only one of King Charles' grandchildren to take on an official role in King Charles' coronation in May 2023, acting as page.

King Charles has always enjoyed a close relationship with his grandchildren and in particular Prince George, who is his eldest grandchild.

King Charles is grandfather to five children.

Prince William and the Princess of Wales are parents to Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are parents to Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two.

However Harry and Meghan live in the US, so time spent with his two youngest grandchildren is limited for the King.

Jobson also spoke of Charles' fondness for Prince Louis: "He obviously gets on very well with Louis, as we have seen. He absolutely adores him."

And upon Princess Charlotte's birth in 2015, Charles joked, "I was hoping for a granddaughter – someone to look after me when I am very old."

The monarch is said to be spending time with his grandchildren at Sandringham in between cancer treatments in London.

The Princess of Wales continues to recover from planned abdominal surgery, with the Prince and Princess of Wales also spending Norfolk of late.

Charles, 75, and Queen Camilla flew by helicopter to Buckingham Palace from their Sandringham estate in Norfolk, eastern England.

The monarch was seen waving to well-wishers as the couple were driven from the palace to their nearby home of Clarence House.

King Charles has also been spotted attending church each Sunday in Norfolk, accompanied by Queen Camilla.
