Prince Charles jokes about how tough it is to be a granddad

With three small grandchildren and another on the way, Prince Charles doesn’t take his duty as 'Grandpa Wales' lightly.

But, now that he's in his 70th year, it seems Prince Charles tends to get a little exhausted by the young ones.

At a community church opening in Dorchester, the heir to the throne met with young mum Amelia Kerr, 33, and her 4-week-old baby, Oliver.

Kerr recalled the Duke of Cornwall saying, "My grandchildren wear me out, I don’t know how you do it."

The 70-year-old is grandfather to Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince Louis, 7 months, and their family will grow again early next year when Meghan and Harry welcome their first child. Charles is also step-grandfather to the five Parker Bowles grandchildren.

More information has come to light lately about what kind of grandfather Charles really is. In the documentary for his recent birthday, Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70, we were shown a sweet snippet of him trying to find the perfect gift for George and Charlotte.

"My grandchildren adore him, absolutely adore him," Camilla revealed in the same documentary. "He reads Harry Potter and he can do all the different voices and I think children really appreciate that."

Prince William also echoed these sentiments, saying he just wished Charles could spend more time with the kids. "Now he's reached his 70th year it's a perfect time to consolidate a little bit because as most families would do, you are worried about having them around and making sure their health's okay," he said.

"And he's the fittest man I know but equally I want him to be fit until he's 95. So, having more time with him at home would be lovely, and being able to you know, play with the grandchildren, because when he's there, he's brilliant. But we need him there as much as possible."

If his clear fondness for the kids is anything to go by, we're sure he'll be making more time for them – well, as much time an heir to the British throne can afford to spare anyway.
