Prince Charles' birthday photo 'a nightmare' due to William and Harry tension

Organising a photo shoot for Prince Charles' 70th birthday was an "absolute nightmare" according to the tell-all book Finding Freedom, out now.

This is despite photos from the day showing nothing but smiling, happy, royals.

"Neither William or Harry made much of an effort to make themselves available," a source told authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

They explained this was due to their difficult relationship with their dad which can be "hot and cold".

Prince Charles runs the Duchy of Cornwall private estate that funds the young royals including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The source claims there had been disputes of how each of the couples was being funded, namely Kate and Meghan's wardrobes which had reportedly caused issues over the years.

The authors write: "The brothers sometimes had to vie for additional funds for projects from their father, who also helped to cover expenses related to Camilla and some of those for his sons (including Kate and Meghan's wardrobes)."

They quoted an aide who said William and Harry "actually genuinely have to debate who gets what amount from their father to fund their projects.

"While Charles may be a father to Harry, he's also their boss, and that makes their relationship complex for a number of reasons."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex resigned as senior members of the British royal family in January 2020, stating that they wished to live independent lives.

They are now based in California where they are understood be putting the finishing touches on a new charitable foundation.

The couple has also signed up with a New York-based speaking agency as a way to fund their new lives.

Despite their intention to live independent lives, it is understood that Prince Harry is still being financially supported by his father to a degree. A source also says Harry is being emotionally supported by Prince Charles who is keen to leave the door open for his youngest son to return to the family business.

"Since [Harry's] move to Los Angeles they have been in regular contact. Charles is not an avid user of texts but there are video and phone calls," one insider told The Sun.

"They have a very strong and close father-and-son relationship," the source said.

"Many people have speculated that the book was the end for Harry and Meghan in Britain. But the Prince of Wales has made it clear the door is always open."
