Prince Charles 'couldn’t be more delighted' about Baby Sussex but won't meet him till the weekend

Prince Charles has spoken about the arrival of his newest grandson.

However, the proud grandfather won't get a chance to meet Baby Sussex until the weekend.

The Prince of Wales said he and the Duchess of Cornwall "couldn’t be more delighted at the news" of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son.

"We’re looking forward to meeting the baby when we return,” he added, confirming he didn't see the newborn before heading to Berlin on a diplomatic visit of Germany.

When meeting members of the public, the Prince made a joke when he was congratulated on the newest member of the family.

"Thank you, I’m collecting a rather large number of them," he laughed.

Prince Charles has various engagements across different parts of the country during the four-day tour, talking about post-Brexit relations.

The 70-year-old will return home on Friday and will make his way to Frogmore Cottage presumably in the days after.

But like any doting grandparent, it looks like Prince Charles will come bearing gifts.

The Royal was given a little teddy bear for the newborn from German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Castle Bellevue.

Baby Sussex is Prince Charles's fourth grandchild, following Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their first child together on Monday morning at 5:26am, weighing 3.3kgs.

Prince Harry was by Meghan's side for the birth and it's believed the Duchess's mum, Doria Ragland was also there.

The Queen will most likely be the next relative to meet the bouncing baby boy, with the monarch and Prince Philip currently in residence at Windsor Castle, just up the road from their eighth great-grandchild.
