A look into Prince Andrew's quiet life at Royal Lodge

The Duke of York's future accommodation remains uncertain as King Charles III's attempt to push him out of his current residence Royal Lodge continues.

While King Charles has made concerted efforts – including an ultimatum – to convince his brother to move out of the 30 bedroom mansion into the smaller Frogmore Cottage, it seems Prince Andrew is sitting pretty for now.

The cottage which is the former home of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has been vacant since the Sussexes were forced to hand back their keys and remains so today, according to a Buckingham Palace spokesperson.

Since his fall from grace, after becoming embroiled in a civil sexual assault case and being outed as a close friend of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew appears to be living a much quieter life.

In a property that boasts 30 rooms and 98 acres of secluded grounds, it's easy to assume it wouldn't be hard to hide away from society. And his recent absence from The Open Championship at Troon suggests that he's doing just that.

Stripped of his military titles and royal patronages, Prince Andrew appears to have a lot of time on his hands. A lot of which he spends within the confines of the Royal Lodge.

In the lodge, Prince Andrew is accompanied by his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, and is understood to be visited regularly by his daughters Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice and their children.

The pair, despite finalising their divorce back in 1996, still live together in Royal Lodge after moving there in 2003 and reportedly remain very close.

The Duke and Duchess of York are often spotted together on walks with their dogs – two Corgis (which initially belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth II) and five Norfolk terriers.

"I have seven dogs and two of them are corgis…five of them are Norfolk terriers," Fergie told Us Weekly in May.

"They're all very lovely and very, very loved."

When he's not promenading with Fergie, Prince Andrew is an avid horse rider and golfer.

Per The Sun, Prince Andrew will head out for a ride in Windsor Great Park outside of the eyes of the public and heads out for a swing of golf at Swinley Forest Golf Club at Winkfield Row near Ascot.

Earlier this year, the Prince was spotted playing a round of golf in the Scottish Highlands.

Back at home, life inside the lodge may be quiet but it seems to still hold the regal opulence synonymous with the royal family.

Back in 2022, British author Anna Pasternak penned her experience visiting the Royal Lodge back in 2018, the year before his now infamous interview in a piece published by the Telegraph UK.

She detailed her visit to the drawing room of the Royal Lodge writing that it "occupies the heart of the house; a grand saloon with sage green panelling, soaring ceilings, vast oils depicting the surrounding park and acres of worn Persian carpet."

The property's grandeur is surely something to behold but it also comes at a pretty penny.

Last year Charles reduced his brother's £249,000 (approx. $436,000 AUD) annual allowance, on which he now depends and is concerned that the disgraced Prince can no longer afford the property's upkeep.

For now, it seems Prince Andrew isn't budging and the King's efforts to change his mind continue.

Charles reportedly wants to move his eldest son, William the Prince of Wales, and his family into the 30 bedroom estate.
