Prince Abdul Mateen of Brunei to marry in lavish royal wedding in 2024

In January next year, a spectacular royal wedding is set to take place not too far from Australia.

Prince Abdul Mateen of Brunei will marry his finance Anisha Rosnah Adam in what is promising to be one of the most lavish events of the new year.

The 32-year-old prince, who has 2.4 million followers on Instagram, is in line to the throne in wealthy Brunei, a small nation on the island of Borneo near Malaysia.

He's often described as one of the world's most eligible bachelors, owing to his family's wealth and his good looks.

Radio Television Brunei announced the happy news in a special broadcast on Sunday.

One follower on social media commented that it was "international heartbreak day".

The 10-day festivities will begin on January 7, with the Islamic marriage ceremony to take place on January 11.

Other events include a wedding reception and parade around Brunei's capital Bandar Seri Begawan on January 14.

Prince Mateen, as he is commonly known, graduated with Bachelor of Arts in international politics from King's College London and attended the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst.

He is a helicopter pilot in the Royal Brunei Air Force, holding the the rank of major and a a skilled polo player, having represented his nation in 2017 and 2019 at the South East Asian Games.

Prince Mateen is the fourth son of Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, one of the world's longest-reigning and few remaining absolute monarchs.

He regularly carries out official engagements with his father and in June attended the royal wedding of Jordan's Crown Prince Hussein to Rajwa Al-Saif.

They were also guests at the coronation of King Charles III in May.

Last month, he joined Brunei's Prime Minister Hassanal Bolkiah at the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of one of the sultan's special advisors, Pehin Dato Isa.

The last royal wedding in Brunei took place in January, between Prince Mateen's sister Princess Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah and their cousin Prince Bahar ibni Jefri Bolkiah.
