Piers Morgan calls for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to be stripped of their royal titles

Piers Morgan has called for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to be stripped of their royal titles, after Meghan criticised US president Donald Trump.

The Duchess of Sussex appeared as a guest on Michelle Obama's When All Women Vote online event on Thursday, urging everyone to vote in the upcoming election.

However, some saw this as a breach in royal protocol, as British royals are prohibited from commenting on politics.

"The Queen must strip the Sussexes of their titles," the Good Morning Britain Host tweeted. "They can't remain as royals and spout off about foreign elections in such a brazenly partisan way."

"Last time I checked she's still calling herself the Duchess of Sussex," he added.

Speaking at the online event, the duchess talked about the struggles that women, particularity women of colour, have faced to get the right to vote.

"Even today we are watching so many women in different communities, who are marginalised, still struggling to see that right come to fruition, and that is - it's just simply not okay," she said during the event.

"We look at the attempts of voter suppression and what that's doing, all the more reason we need each of you to be out there supporting each other to understand that this fight is worth fighting and we all have to be out there mobilising to have our voices heard." She continued.

"I think we are obviously faced with a lot of problems in our world right now, both in the physical world and in the digital world, but we can and must do everything we can to ensure all women have their voices heard."

"Because at this juncture, if we aren't part of the solution, we are part of the problem. If you aren't going out there and voting, then you're complicit," the 39-year-old concluded.

Megan and Harry stepped down as senior royals earlier this year. Although they no longer have royal duties and were stripped of their Royal Highness titles, they kept the Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles.
