King Charles sends 'heartfelt congratulations' to Great Britain's Paralympics team as games wrap up

King Charles has congratulated the Paralympics Great Britain team and athletes across the Commonwealth as the games wrap up in Paris.

"As this wonderful summer of sport comes to a close in Paris, my wife joins me in sending our heartfelt congratulations to the Paralympian athletes from Great Britain and Northern Ireland – and from across the whole Commonwealth – for their numerous successes at this year's Games," he shared.

"Behind every medal won lies a wonderful story of courage, commitment and true talent, matched by a determination that has taken you to the very top," the royal continued.

"We rejoice in your victories, while saluting and celebrating all those who have taken part, as well as thanking the support teams who play such a special part in your achievements," he continued.

"Your example has succeeded in inspiring, encouraging and lifting the hearts of all"

Great Britain and Northern Ireland finished second in the medal table with a total of 49 golds, 44 silvers and 31 bronzes.

Australia finished up in ninth position with 18 golds, 17 silver and 28 broze bringing our total to 63.

Queen Camilla has given a rare update on her husband's health, just days earlier. She made the comments as she returned to work after the summer break on Tuesday.

Her Majesty was asked about her husband during a tour of the Dyson Cancer Centre in Bath.

Speaking to Suzie Moon, a charity worker who asked: "Is he ok?", the Queen replied: "Yes, he's doing very well".

The King, 75, was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer after treatment for an enlarged prostate.

His Majesty revealed the diagnosis in February and resumed public-facing duties in April. He continues to receive weekly treatment.

In March, the Princess of Wales also revealed she was receiving preventative chemotherapy after announcing that cancer had been found when she underwent abdominal surgery in January.

The royal couple are headed to Australia next month. This will be their first royal tour of Australia as King and Queen.

Their visit will include stops in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.
