Monaco's royal twins show off customised bags as they go back to school

Monaco's royal twins have been photographed as they mark a milestone for any youngster: the first day of school.

Hereditary Prince Jacques and his sister Princess Gabriella were seen holding hands as they walked towards the gates of their school, Institut François d'Assise – Nicolas Barré, on Monday September 8.

They are now in grade five – their second final year – at the private Catholic school in the principality.

The royal twins, 10, were neatly dressed in their navy and red school unforms but were able to put their own spin on their backpacks.

Prince Jacques chose a Roblox-themed bag, showing he is a fan of the online gaming platform.

While Princess Gabriella had a blue bag featuring the character Cinnamoroll. Hanging from the bag was one of the popular Labubu dolls.

One of the photos shared on the official Prince's Palace social media page shows Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene standing proudly with their children.

"This Monday morning, Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella returned to school," the palace said.

"A new academic year full of discoveries, friendships, and adventures awaits them.

"The Princely Family wishes all students in the Principality a wonderful start to the school year."

On Saturday, the family were the guests of honour at the annual Monaco Picnic, known officially as U Cavagnëtu.

The event, which marks the end of summer, features traditional Monegasque songs, dancing, and costumes and food and drink.

Princess Charlene wore a cream dress by Oscar de la Renta while Princess Gabriella was dressed in Dior.

The picnic, held at the Princess Antoinette Park, dates back to the early 1930s.

The royal twins are slowly increasing their public appearances alongside Prince Albert and Princess Charlene.

Prince Jacques will one day succeed his father as Sovereign Prince of Monaco, even though his sister is two minutes older than him.

That's due to Monaco's primogeniture laws, which state males take precedence over any females in the line of succession.

Monaco's laws also mean any child born out of wedlock is not eligible for a place in the line of succession.

Monaco's royal family will soon expand with the addition of its newest member.

Pierre Casiraghi and his wife Beatrice Borromeo are expecting their third child, due in the coming weeks.

Casiraghi is the youngest of Princess Caroline's children and has two sons with Borromeo: Stefano, born in 2017 and named for Casiraghi's father who died in a speed-boating accident, and Francesco, born in May 2018.
