Megan is getting married in May – just like Meghan Markle
When Megan McLaughlin chose May 5 as her wedding date, she couldn’t have known how close she’d come to sharing the big day with another bride named Megan. Well, Meghan.
The Adelaide doctor will be saying ‘I do’ this Saturday, two weeks to the day before the biggest wedding of the year: that of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
The coincidence wasn’t lost on Megan and her fiancé, Ryan Piekarski.

Ryan, 31, proposed to Megan in March 2017 - while they were scaling the roof of Adelaide Oval, no less. The couple of three years then celebrated the happy occasion by eating breakfast in the middle of the field.
Although the pair had their date locked in months before Harry and Meghan’s engagement was announced last November, they were understandably a little nervous that the royal wedding would coincide with their own.
“We waited to see if they picked the same date,” Megan says.

Kensington Palace has been drip-feeding various details to the public in recent weeks, announcing the royal couple’s choice of music, cake, photographer and florist.
This barrage of information could be overwhelming for any couple trying to plan their own wedding, but Megan says she and Ryan haven’t been paying too much attention.

Amusingly, the parallels between Megan and Meghan’s weddings don’t end with the month and the brides’ names.
Mentioning Harry and Meghan’s lemon and elderflower cake, I jokingly ask the bride-to-be whether she and Ryan have a similarly citrusy creation planned for their big day. She pauses - then laughs.
“We actually do! I hadn’t thought of that!” she tells 9Honey.

“But who doesn’t these days?” Megan says.
She has a point; you can’t open a wedding Pinterest board without finding a flower-festooned feat of baking. Even royal brides and grooms can’t resist a wedding trend, it seems.

“Theirs is going to be a little bigger than ours, I think,” Megan jokes, referring to the Royal Wedding’s 600-strong guest list.

Megan and Ryan will exchange vows in a school chapel in Somerton Park, before heading to a winery in the Adelaide Hills for their reception.
Unlike their royal counterparts, they’ll be enjoying their special day without the glare of the media spotlight.
