Meghan honours Ruth Bader Ginsburg: 'A true inspiration to me since I was a girl'

The Duchess of Sussex has remembered Ruth Bader Ginsburg as a "true inspiration" following the trailblazing US Supreme Court Justice's death at 87.

"With an incomparable and indelible legacy, Ruth Bader Ginsburg will forever be known as a woman of brilliance, a Justice of courage, and a human of deep conviction," Meghan Markle wrote in a rare statement.

"She has been a true inspiration to me since I was a girl."

Concluding the message, the Los Angeles-born duchess urged her fellow Americans to "honour her, remember her, act for her."

Ginsburg died of metastatic pancreatic cancer in her Washington DC home on Friday, surrounded by family.

She was the second woman ever appointed to the US Supreme Court, and her name is synonymous with championing women's rights.

Meghan was one of many celebrities and high-profile figures to pay tribute to Ginsburg.

Barack Obama shared a lengthy statement via Medium, saying the justice "fought to the end" with "unwavering faith in our democracy and its ideals"

"Justice Ginsburg inspired the generations who followed her, from the tiniest trick-or-treaters to law students burning the midnight oil to the most powerful leaders in the land," the former US president wrote.

"Michelle and I admired her greatly, we're profoundly thankful for the legacy she left this country, and we offer our gratitude and our condolences to her children and grandchildren tonight."

Former first lady and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton described Bader Ginsburg's death as a "devastating loss" on a personal and national level.

"Justice Ginsburg paved the way for so many women, including me. There will never be another like her. Thank you RBG," she tweeted.

Since her resignation as a senior working royal family member and her return to the US, Meghan has been vocal in discussions about the upcoming election.

The duchess and mother of one has urged the women of America to use their voices and register to vote, as voting is not compulsory in the US.

"We can and must do everything we can to ensure all women have their voices heard because at this juncture, if we aren't part of the solution, we are part of the problem," she said in a recent video address.

"If you aren't going out there and voting, then you're complicit. If you're complacent, you're complicit."
