"What's so beautiful is to look at the legacy that his [Prince Harry] grandmother was able to leave on so many fronts," Meghan told the magazine.

"Certainly, in terms of female leadership, she is the most shining example of what that looks like. I feel deep gratitude to have been able to spend time with her and get to know her."

Meghan, who now lives in the US, had been in the UK with husband Prince Harry at the time of the Queen's death at her Balmoral Estate in Scotland on September 8.

The public's "outpouring of love and support" for the royal family during this "complicated time" left Meghan blown away.

"I'm really grateful that I was able to be with my husband to support him, especially during that time," she said.

The duchess added during the second sit down with the publication – after her initial interview was held out of respect to Her Majesty's passing – she felt "fortunate" to have enjoyed a good relationship with the monarch.

"I've reflected on that first official engagement that I had with her, how special that felt. I feel fortunate. And I continue to be proud to have had a nice warmth with the matriarch of the family."

The Archetypes podcast host also provided details on working with Prince Harry on projects and teased to what their highly anticipated upcoming documentary will hold.

"It's nice to be able to trust someone with our story — a seasoned director whose work I've long admired — even if it means it may not be the way we would have told it," Meghan said of working with American film director Liz Garbus.

"But that's not why we're telling it. We're trusting our story to someone else, and that means it will go through their lens."

There's been some confusion over when the couple's documentary will air on streaming service Netflix, with reports earlier this week the project is being held till 2023 to leave some space after season five of fictional royal drama The Crown goes to air.

While other reports say the streaming service is keen to air the documentary before the end of the year to capitalise on the historical drama's popularity.

The couple are yet to speak about when the project will air or make any formal announcements about the date is will be available to watch.
