Meghan Markle gets her first stamp

Most wedding presents are along the lines of a new toaster - or, if you’re lucky, a fancy bin - but the royal wedding is a whole different ball game.

To mark the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the UK’s Royal Mail has created a commemorative set of stamps.

Journalist Emily Nash tweeted an example of one of the stamps, writing, “Meghan gets her first stamp! What a wedding present from @RoyalMail”

The images for the souvenir stamps were taken by New York-based photographer Alexi Lubomirski at Frogmore House in Windsor in December.

Lubomirski described the couple as being "so deliciously in love".

The final images were approved by the happy couple and the Queen, and will be released in the UK on the day of the royal wedding, May 19.

Philip Parker, the Royal Mail's stamp strategy manager, said: "We sent a mock-up and the couple approved our selection.

"We wanted to use the black-and-white image, which is the slightly more informal picture, because we felt it gave a nice balance to the two images."

He added: "Every new stamp is approved by Her Majesty and so we obtained the approval of Prince Harry and Ms Meghan Markle, but then also submitted to Buckingham Palace for approval of the whole sheet."

Similar designs were created for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011, and were a huge hit with the public.
