Meghan and Harry have told the Queen they won't join Royal Family for Christmas: reports

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and young Archie are set to skip Sandringham this Christmas.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed to The Mirror the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and their son, will spend Christmas Day with Meghan's mother Doria Ragland, instead.

Ragland lives in California, in the United States, and it's expected Harry and Meghan will take Archie there as part of an extended break from royal duties.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month," a A Buckingham Palace spokesperson told The Mirror.

"Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess' mother Doria Ragland.

"This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen."

The spokesperson said that, due to security reasons, no further details would be provided at this time.

It's believed Remembrance Sunday was the couple's last public engagement of the year before they head to the US for Thanksgiving.

However, the palace didn't confirm exactly where the Sussexes would spend Christmas.

It was previously expected the Sussexes would return to the UK for Christmas with the Queen as per tradition for the British Royal Family.

Earlier, The Sun suggested Harry and Meghan may even return to the UK for Christmas, after their US holiday, choosing to spend December 25 at their home, Frogmore Cottage, in Windsor.

The couple also skipped the annual family summer vacation at Balmoral this year, with pundits believing the double whammy might "hurt" Her Majesty.

"The Queen might be a little hurt but she's far too gracious to ever let it show or be known," Royal biographer Ingrid Seward said.

The move is also set to do little for the reported Royal rift and tensions between brothers Prince William and Prince Harry.

This would have been obviously Archie's first Christmas with the Royal Family and Meghan's third.

When the former actress attended her first Christmas Day church service in 2017, although engaged to Prince Harry at the time, she became the first person to spend Christmas in Sandringham before marrying into the Royal Family.
