Meghan Markle's coronation invite decline reportedly due to wanting 'closeness' between King Charles and her children

Meghan Markle is reportedly making more important plans after declining the invitation to King Charles III's coronation in the UK.

The Duchess of Sussex is said busy planning a birthday bash for her son, Prince Archie, who will be turning four years old on the day of the coronation, May 6.

A source told Page Six that the guest list to the "intimate" party will include Meghan's mother Doria Ragland, some of Archie's school friends, Meghan's mum friends, and some famous faces, considering the Sussexes "do have celebrities in their life," after all.

Prince Harryon the other hand, will reportedly be racing home to make it back in time for his son's special day, just hours after he attends his father's big day at Westminster Abbey in London, halfway across the world.

"Harry's going to make every effort to get back in time for Archie's birthday," said the source. "It's going to be an intimate party, it's not going to be like 'My Super Sweet 16' or Portia de Rossi's 50th!"

The Duke of Sussex will reportedly be travelling on a commercial flight and may even be jumping on a plane directly after the 11am ceremony, making it back in time for his son's party, due to the eight-hour time difference.

Meghan has come under scrutiny for her decision to stay home – despite critics also campaigning for her to decline the coronation invite – with the children instead of attending the historic event, but sources say that her decision came from a place of wanting "closeness" with the crown.

She allegedly believed that her attendance at the first coronation in 70 years would draw attention away from her father-in-law's moment.

"She just really doesn't want a song and dance and everything being lived out in the public eye," another insider said.

"Meghan doesn't want any more rifts. She wants her children to know their grandfather, Charles, particularly when they are not going to know their other grandfather," referring to Markle's own long-estranged father, Thomas Markle.

"She does hope they will meet and hopes her decision will be seen as an unselfish one, as it was best to keep the attention on His Majesty."
