This is why Meghan Markle always wears neutral shades in the Queen’s presence

Since becoming an official royal, Meghan Markle has stuck to a colour palette of muted pastels with the occasional accessory thrown in.

During her first engagement after her wedding to Prince Harry, at Prince Charles’ 70th birthday garden party, she wore a nude dress with sheer sleeves and matching shoes, bag and hat.

Then, when she accompanied Queen Elizabeth last week to Chester on her first trip with Her Majesty, she wore a Givenchy dress with shoulder detail and a black belt.

So, for the woman who wore a sheer-top dress in her engagement photos, and a black trouser suit during a trip with Harry before they married, what happened to the bold sense of style?

It appears that Meghan is taking a step back to allow Queen Elizabeth to take centre stage.

“Meghan has opted for a neutral color once again,” fashion commentator Lucas Armitage told the Daily Mail. “I feel this is a clever styling tactic as it will always work with the Queen's look; she is known and applauded for her use of bright fun colors.”

The use of neutral colour on Meghan’s part is a show of respect to her new grandmother-in-law. While she won’t always be expected to wear nude, it’s highly unlikely she would ever opt for a bright shade around Her Majesty - particularly when she looks so good in bright green herself.

However, the Queen is clearly a big fan of Meghan. When they stepped out together in Chester, the Duchess of Sussex was spotted wearing a pair of pearl-and-diamond earrings that perfectly matched her grandmother-in-law’s - a gift from Queen Elizabeth herself.

We wouldn’t mind toning it down if we were gifted a pair of diamond earrings, to be perfectly honest.
