'Meghan was upsetting people': Royal author says she heard reports about the Duchess' behaviour early on

Problems between Meghan Markle and palace staff began early on, according to a royal expert who has taken part in the ITV documentary Harry and William: What Went Wrong.

Royal author Penny Junor says Markle's "showbiz-y approach" to royal life didn't sit well with those within the monarchy.

"I was hearing very bad stories from early on that Meghan was upsetting people," she explains in the documentary, adding that the former actress is "not as charming as she seemed."

"Our Royal Family are not celebrities," she continues. "They are working members of a public institution."

Although Junor has pointed the finger squarely at both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex when it comes to their choices following their resignation as senior members of the British royal family in January 2020, citing their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey which aired in March, 2021.

Junor says she was "appalled" by both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's criticism of the monarchy during that interview.

"These are not statements that should be made for public consumption," she says. "This is the sort of thing that should happen in the privacy of a psychiatrist's couch."

All eyes have been on Prince Harry and Prince William who have fallen out since Harry and Meghan wed in 2018. The rift between the brothers has only widened since the Sussex's move to the US where they are now operating independently under the brand Archewell.

Still, Harry and William have been able to come together for key events including Prince Philip's funeral in April, 2021, and the unveiling of a statue of their mother Princess Diana on July 1.

Prince Harry is expected to return to the UK in September for another memorial for his mother and this time he may be joined by wife Meghan, although it isn't known whether the couple will bring their children Archie, two, and Lilibet, one-month with them for the trip.
