Bookies have just slashed odds on Meghan giving birth in February

The first child of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex hasn't even been born yet, but he or she is already whipping up a frenzy among bookies.

According to The Mirror, betting companies in the UK have slashed odds on Meghan, 37, welcoming her first child at least a month earlier than expected.

When announcing the Duchess' pregnancy last year, Kensington Palace did not share an exact due date, simply stating she was expected to give birth in the northern hemisphere spring, i.e. March to May.

However, the odds of baby Sussex being born in February have plummeted, sparked by the discussion over Meghan's physical appearance during her most recent royal outings.

A number of UK bookies slashed their odds of this happening to 6/4, a drop from 8/1.

"It's Meghan's fast-growing baby bump that has fuelled suspicion she is actually much further along in her pregnancy, or due twins, making February the most popular bet for the birth," a spokesperson for bookmakers.tv tells The Mirror.

"The latest betting definitely suggests there could be a baby announcement around the corner."

This isn't the first time discussions around Meghan's bump have prompted bookies to act.

Last month, popular Irish agency Paddy Power suspended bets on the former Suits star welcoming twins, following an "abnormal" number of wagers.

"The stream of bets has led us to believe that perhaps the punters — or an insider source — knows something more than we do," the company explained in a statement. 

Competitor agency Coral also stopped accepting bets on the possibility of twins, with spokesperson John Hill also noting an increased interest.

"Many punters feel as though Meghan and Harry will have their hands full with not one but two babies next year," he said.

As is always the case with royal babies, punters have also been placing bets on what the new Sussex family member will be named.

Diana, Arthur and Victoria are seemingly the current frontrunners, with names including Alice and Edward also attracting bets.

Naturally, the Duke and Duchess are staying mum (ahem) on the matter of their baby's name and due date, so we'll just have to wait and see.
