Matchmaker says she wouldn't have picked Meghan for Harry

A matchmaker who has built a reputation for finding dates for high-profile clients says she wouldn't necessarily have chosen Meghan Markle for Prince Harry.

Lara Asprey, who runs UK dating agency Asprey Introductions, told the latest issue of Hello! Magazine that she "put the feelers out" to try and find Harry a wife.

"We have friends in common and I had lots of people for him," Asprey told the publication.

"Then he was introduced to Meghan... Someone else got there first."

The identity of the person who set the Duke and Duchess of Sussex up has never been revealed, out of respect for their privacy.

But the rumour mill suggests it could have been Meghan's designer friend Misha Nonoo, whom she is now collaborating with on a capsule collection of women's workwear.

Violet von Westenholz, a childhood friend of Prince Harry's, is another name rumoured to have set the royal and the actress up on their blind date in 2016.

Asprey admits the couple are "great together" but says American-born Meghan wouldn't have been her first choice.

"I would not have necessarily picked her as perfect for Harry so it just goes to show that chemistry is unpredictable," Asprey says.

"Had I met her I'd have seen it because they're great together."

Membership into Asprey's matchmaking club doesn't come cheap. Potential clients must pay a minimum of $15k AUD to meet a "quality selection of candidates to choose from", according to the agency's website.

Asprey has built a reputation for matchmaking wealthy clients and has appeared on reality television in The Ultimate Matchmaker.
