A tourist has received a rude shock when she got a little too close to one of the King's Guard horses in London.

The woman approached the animal outside the Household Cavalry Museum at the Horse Guards Parade near Buckingham Palace to pose for a photo when it grabbed her.

The horse can be seen biting the woman's hair, its mouth latching onto her ponytail before letting go.

The woman screams before she quickly wriggles free and runs away.

And, perhaps even more amusing, the female soldier on top of the horse – wearing the uniform of the Blues and Royals – did not flinch or react at all as the animal grabbed the tourist.

Not deterred by the horse's attack, another tourist steps into the same spot as the first woman only for the horse to nudge her roughly seconds later.

The spectacle was caught on camera outside the museum's gates.

Thankfully, both women walked away unharmed, but they were warned the horses can be temperamental.

Directly next to the guard's sentry box is a large sign that reads: 'Beware. Horses may kick or bite! Thank you'.

Many saw the funny side in the incident and shared their thoughts on Youtube, where the video was originally posted.

"That's the best laugh I have had today. Give that horse another carrot," one said.

"The guard is sitting there like 'I've got the best horse today!'" another added.

While another said: "I bet these guards have a right laugh about things like this when they go back inside".

The incident was eerily similar to another in the same location in July last year.

Then, a tourist was attempting to pose next to the Queen's Guard when she got a little too close and grabbed the horse's reins.

But the soldier on top of the animal quickly reprimanded the woman.

"Stand back from the Queen's lifeguard, don't touch the reins!" he yelled at the top of his lungs.

Her video, shared on TikTok, was viewed more than five million times.

As a rule, tourists are not encouraged to stand too closely to the horses on duty or speak to the guards.
