The meaning behind coronation seating plan at Westminster Abbey

Months of preparation went into King Charles' coronation with great pains taken with the seating plan in Westminster Abbey.

Senior royals were given prime position followed by the remainder of the royal family, followed by international royals, politicians, dignitaries and special guests.

The Abbey can seat 2,200 people with each seat filled for the historic event.

The British royals are seated in order of importance, in relation to the roles they play in the monarchy. International royals are seated in order of importance to the British monarchy.

The right hand side of the Abbey was reserved for the royals and their families.

In the first row we see the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, next to the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

In the second row was Princess Anne, the Princess Royal and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh's children Lady Louise, 19, and Viscount James, 15.

As expected, Prince Harry was seated in the third row alongside Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, Princess Beatrice and Eduardo Mapelli Mozzi and Prince Andrew.

Zara and Mike Tindall were seated in the fourth row behind Prince Harry.

On the left hand side of the Abbey were international royals.

The first row was reserved for Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden and King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.
