King Charles shares first statement since cancer diagnosis
King Charles has shared his first statement to the public since he was diagnosed with cancer earlier this week.
As per Buckingham Palace, the monarch wrote, "I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days.
"As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement.

"It is equally heartening to hear how sharing my own diagnosis has helped promote public understanding and shine a light on the work of all those organisations which support cancer patients and their families across the UK and wider world.
"My lifelong admiration for their tireless care and dedication is all the greater as a result of my own personal experience."
The King revealed his diagnosis on Tuesday morning through another statement via Buckingham Palace.

It comes after a recent hospital stay. AP
"During The King's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted," the Palace said in a statement shared to Instagram on Monday evening in London (5am AEDT Tuesday).
"Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.
"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."

The Palace released no further details at this time, though it is understood the King's diagnosis is not of prostate cancer, despite his recent – separate – benign prostate enlargement diagnosis.
The King had left hospital on January 29 after a three-day stay to recover from a procedure to treat his prostate.
The monarch had shared the news of his hospital stay in the hope men would be inspired to get theirs checked.
The United Kingdom's National Health Service confirmed searches about prostate enlargement increased by 1000 per cent following the announcement.
