King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla booed as they arrive at Colchester Library
King Charles and Camilla, Queen Consort made multiple stops in Colchester on Tuesday to mark the locality's newfound city status.
Their trip to Essex was met with a small but loud group of republican protesters who booed the royal couple as they arrived at Colchester Library.
Footage posted on social media showed the couple ignoring the shouting chants as they approached the library, where they celebrated a cause close to Camilla's heart – Essex Year of Reading, a countywide campaign to encourage reading among children.

The Queen Consort, who champions a number of literacy programs around the UK, was even given her own library card during the visit.
Reporters at the scene tweeted that there were cheers in the background too, but they were drowned out by the booing.

It certainly didn't appear to be all negative sentiments around town for the monarch and Queen Consort, with thousands lining the streets of Colchester to get a glimpse of the pair.
Charles, 74, and Camilla, 75, began their day with a visit to Colchester Castle, where they celebrated the city status with members of local businesses, community groups, volunteers, conservation projects and arts organisations.

The monarch dressed in a black suit with a lavender tie for the day trip, while the Queen Consort wore an off-white silk coat dress by designer Fiona Clare with a fur-esque fawn-coloured fluffy hat amid the 4-degree temperatures.
During the visit, the royals unveiled the name of Colchester Zoo's newest addition, Dara, a baby southern white rhino who was born in January to mother Astrid.
After their visit to the castle the couple mingled with the many lining the streets in the cold and wet conditions before making their way to the library event.

Once safely inside the library and away from protesters, the royals enjoyed afternoon tea.
They were joined by volunteers from Age UK and The Silver Line helpline users and staff.
The two charities for older people count the monarch and Queen Consort as their royal patrons with Charles taking on the role with Age UK in 2010 as Prince of Wales and Camilla patron of The Silver Line in 2017 as Duchess of Cornwall.
The royal couple also met with by characters Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter, played by actors from a local theatre troop, in the library's Literacy Corner.

They were joined by TV and radio personality Dermot O'Leary, who is also a children's author, as well as screenwriter and novelist Frank Cottrell-Boyce.
The visit to Colchester is not the first time King Charles has been targeted by protesters since taking to the throne last September.
At least two people tried to throw eggs at him but missed during walkabouts in York and Luton.
