Prince Harry to call King Charles for his 75th birthday: reports

King Charles is set to get a special call for his 75th birthday, according to reports.

His Majesty will get a "transatlantic phone call" for his milestone birthday from his younger son, Prince Harry, the BBC says.

The publication reports the royal, who now lives in Los Angeles, still plans to call his father despite claims the Duke of Sussex had "no contact" from the Palace about the King's birthday bash.

While the King will no doubt be fielding calls from loved ones across the globe, there have also been well wishes made across social media.

Older son Prince William and his wife Kate shared a public tribute to the monarch with some sweet family photos.

Elsewhere across the country there was a 41 royal gun salute in London's Greek Park with The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery Battery giving the monarch a traditional birthday greeting even in the torrential rain.

Similar scenes played out at the Tower of London and Edinburgh Castle, where there were 62-gun and 21-gun salutes fired respectively, to mark the King's 75th birthday.

The downpour didn't stop the gun salutes and it didn't stop King Charles and Queen Camilla either, with the pair happily holding their own umbrellas as they visited Didcot in England, a town about 100 kilometres west of London.

Their Majesties headed to Fare Share, a surplus food distribution centre, to launch The Coronation Food Project.

The new initiative seeks "to bridge the gap between food waste and food need across all four nations of the United Kingdom, helping people and helping the planet".

The monarch spoke about the new initiative in this week's Big Issue magazine, of which he appears on the cover, and his hopes for it to be his legacy.

"To mark my 75th birthday in this Coronation year, I could ask for no greater gift than that the Coronation Food Project creates a lasting legacy to help others – and help the planet," he wrote in the magazine.

"Food need is as real and urgent a problem as food waste – and if a way could be found to bridge the gap between them, then it would address two problems in one."

While at the distribution centre, the King met Kelvin, a seller of Big Issue; and Lord John Bird, the founder of the publication helping the homeless and vulnerable.

The monarch didn't want any birthday freebies, handing over cash to buy a copy from Kelvin.

His Majesty was seen looking over his portrait on the cover - a new image taken by world-renowned photographer John Waddell Rankin in the Clarence House Gardens in October 2023.

Their Majesties also spoke with staff, volunteers, and representatives of major UK supermarkets to give them a better understanding how The Coronation Food Project is hoping to supercharge the distribution of surplus food to those who need it most.

Following the outing, the King will be hosting a reception to celebrate nurses and midwives, as part of the NHS 75 celebrations, marking 75 years of the National Healthcare Service (NHS) in the UK.
