Kate Middleton delighted young tennis fans this week with a sweet video call, but it was her hilariously on-theme fashion choice that had us in stitches.

The Duchess of Cambridge teamed up with Wimbledon champion Andy Murray for a surprise chat with a group of young tennis lovers from a London primary school, linking up with the kids via video call.

Decked out in an emerald green dress and matching earrings, Kate's outfit seemed to be just another of her understated yet stylish ensembles.

It wasn't until eagle-eyed fans looked closer that they realised the royal had hidden a hilarious detail in her outfit.

That's right: Kate's dress is actually covered with a pattern made up of little tiny tennis players. Have you ever seen anything more adorable?

A fan of the sport herself, Kate can usually be spotted court-side at Wimbledon when the event isn't cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This year she chose to show her love for tennis through her fashion, donning the oh-so on-theme HVN shirtdress with a retro tennis-player print for her video call.

She accessorised with a purple and green bow tie on her lapel, a ribbon honouring the official colours of Wimbledon.

During the call she smiled and listened attentively as the children asked tennis champ Murray about his career, before telling the children to enjoy their holidays.

Though Wimbledon has been cancelled this year, Kate previously reassured fans that it would be worth the wait for the 2021 Grand Slam.

"This year, sadly though, things are very different. But we will bide our time until we sit on the edge of our seats again and celebrate again," she said in a short film for the event.

"So, when the time is right and we open the gates, we will be back again, and it will have been worth the wait."
