In three months' time, Princess Charlotte will begin big school.

It's a daunting period in any child's life, even when you're a member of the British royal family with access to the best education facilities available.

Charlotte, four, will join her brother Prince George, five, at Thomas's Battersea in September.

But it seems the young princess isn't too fazed about her big milestone.

The Duchess of Cambridge has revealed how her daughter is feeling about moving from nursery to school.

Kate spoke with mum Helen Jones during her visit to the Lake District on Tuesday, telling her Charlotte was excited.

"She said Charlotte was looking forward to school. She was very friendly," Helen told Hello!

When she begins at Thomas's Battersea, Charlotte will have another familiar face in the school yard.

Her distant cousin, Maud Windsor, is in the same year as Prince George at the school. Maud, who is the daughter of Lord Frederick Windsor and Sophie Winkleman, was part the bridal party at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's royal wedding in October, alongside George and Charlotte.

Upon the announcement from Kensington Palace, the school's headmaster, Simon O'Malley, released a statement sharing his joy over the news Charlotte would be joining the school.

"We are delighted that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have decided that Princess Charlotte will join her elder brother, Prince George, at Thomas's Battersea," he said.

"We greatly look forward to welcoming her and all of our new pupils to the school in September."

Since January 2018, Charlotte has been attending Willocks Nursery School, which is just a stone’s throw away from Kensington Palace, where the Cambridge family lives.

Thomas's Battersea is slightly further away, being a 15-minute drive, but Charlotte will at least have the familiarity of having her big brother to look out for her.
