Prince William and Kate rumoured to be planning US tour but Prince Harry and Meghan likely to be excluded

The Prince and Princess of Wales are rumoured to be planning a tour to the United States of America to coincide with a very special anniversary.

Prince William and Catherine could travel across to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, in July.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have also been invited by US President Donald Trump, with a potential state visit flagged for April.

But Prince Harry and Meghan, who are based in California, are said to be left out of any official events involving the British royal family.

Page Six is reporting on the rumours, with a source telling the US publication: "This is going to be a huge year for both the US and the UK".

"Obviously the Duke and Duchess of Sussex aren't working royals, so they will not be invited to any celebrations," the source said.

"Any invitation would have to come at the behest of the royal family themselves."

Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have not commented on the speculation.

Prince William and Kate have travelled to the US three times together since their wedding in 2011.

Their first joint visit was to Los Angeles in July, 2011, just three months after they married.

They returned in December 2014, when Kate was pregnant with Princess Charlotte for events in New York City.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were last in the US in December, 2022, for the prince's Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony which was held in Boston.

It was their first visit stateside since the change of throne months before.

It is not clear if the couple's three children – Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven – will accompany their parents if the visit eventuates.

King Charles has not travelled to US since acceding the throne from his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Before becoming King, then-Prince Charles visited the US more than 20 times.

The special relationship between the US and UK was on show in September when Trump and First Lady Melania Trump made an unprecedented second state visit to England.

In his speech, Trump said described the night – and the state visit – as "truly one of the highest honours of my life".

"For many decades, His Majesty the King has epitomised the fortitude, nobility and the spirit of the British monarchy and the British people," Trump said.

The president called King Charles a "very, very special man" while Prince William, he said, was "going to have unbelievable success in the future".

He appeared enamoured by the Princess of Wales who he described as looking "so radiant and so healthy".

The princess and First Lady carried out their first joint engagement during the visit, on the grounds of Frogmore House in Windsor.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are also rumoured to be visiting Australia sometime next year after a planned tour for 2020 was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese extended an invitation to the Wales family, which is a key first step in any foreign royal tour, in September during his visit to Balmoral Castle.

Now that King Charles has toured Australia for the first time as monarch (in October 2024), he's opened the door for his family to follow in his footsteps.

The couple, and their eldest son Prince George, last were in Australia in 2014.
