Kate reunites with her family in beautiful photos taken after gruelling hiking challenge

The Princess of Wales has shared sweet photos of the moment she was greeted by her family after completing the gruelling National Three Peaks challenge.

The official Instagram account for the Prince and Princess of Wales shared the snaps of Catherine, 44, reuniting with her loved ones after she successfully completed the challenge, a year and a half on from her announcing her cancer was in remission. 

The royal looked like an ordinary hiker, wearing a black shirt, red shorts and a hat that obscured her face, carrying a brown backpack with a purple drink bottle on the side.

The first photo shows Prince William and Kate in a tight embrace after the challenge, followed by snaps of her embracing her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. 

She appeared to be assuring them she was fine, putting a hand on 12-year-old George’s shoulder, bringing Charlotte into a tight hug after the 11-year-old seemed to get emotional, and holding on to eight-year-old Louis’ hand as she talked to her husband.

The final photo showed her extended family was also there to greet her at the end of the track.

Carole Middleton and father Michael Middleton there to support Kate and her brother James Middleton, who also took on the journey, as he promised years ago when his sister was first diagnosed with cancer.

When Catherine announced in March 2024 she had been diagnosed with cancer after undergoing major abdominal surgery two months earlier, James took to Instagram with his own message.  

“Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together,” he wrote alongside a photo of himself and Catherine wearing matching red backpacks from what appeared to be the top of a hill.

“As a family we will climb this one with you.”

The pair were captured in videos taken by fans during the National Three Peaks Challenge on Mount Snowden Summit in Wales, one of the three peaks that make up the event.

It marked the final leg of the journey, which begins in Scotland by scaling the UK’s tallest peak, Ben Nevis.

That leg is 17km and takes five to six hours to complete. 

Next, participants head to Scafell Pike in England and spend four to five hours mastering that peak.

Finally, participants head to Snowdon in Wales and spend another four to five hours traversing the peak.

In between each leg, they drive four-and-a-half to six hours between the mountains.

The Princess’s involvement was kept secret during the challenge, with her participation only made public in her own social media post via the Prince and Princess of Wales’ social media accounts.
