Princess of Wales will join William and children at Balmoral for summer break

The Princess of Wales is to join the Royal family at Balmoral for its annual summer escape to the country, it has been reported, after she spoke of the "power of nature" in keeping healthy.

The Princess is expected to join her husband and three children at the Scottish estate later this summer, in line with the royal family's custom.

Balmoral was known as a favourite residence of the late Queen Elizabeth II, who gathered her family there each year for barbecues and walks in the Highlands.

The King is continuing that tradition, with the Wales family reported to be joining the Royal retreat as usual this year. The Edinburghs, Yorks, Phillips and Tindalls also visit each summer, although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not yet been with their children.

The Mail on Sunday reported it will be the furthest the Princess of Wales has travelled in 2024, since her abdominal surgery, subsequent diagnosis of cancer and course of preventative chemotherapy.

She has been spending the school summer holidays with her children, with the family making occasional public appearances in recent weeks. The Princess and her daughter Princess Charlotte attended Wimbledon, while Prince William and Prince George went to the Euro 2024 semi-final.

The family are rumoured to be going to the Olympics in Paris this week to cheer on Team GB, although their attendance has not yet been confirmed.

The Princess has regularly championed the importance of sport and outdoor pursuits, and was photographed under a tree in Windsor at the time of her last health update.

In a written message in her role as patron of the Natural History Museum in mid-July, she said: "I know the power of nature to support our development and wellbeing, both by bringing us joy and helping to keep us physically, mentally and spiritually healthy."

In June, when she wrote of having "good days and bad days" in her ongoing treatment, she said: "On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting.

"But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well. My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months.

"On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home."

Since then, she has appeared at Trooping the Colour and Wimbledon, and has been kept updated on her Early Years project.

The Wales family live at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor and spend their holidays at their home of Anmer Hall in Norfolk.
