A few lucky people will be the recipient of a heartfelt letter penned by Catherine, Princess of Wales as she thanks them for their kindness and efforts over the past year.

The royal will be holding her Christmas Carols service Together at Christmas at Westminster Abbey on Friday, December 6, inviting 1600 people who have supported their communities in some way – whether it be on a personal level, at work or through volunteering – as well as those who have gone through tough times themselves.

The event, spearheaded by the Princess of Wales, will provide "a moment to reflect upon the importance of love and empathy, and how much we need each other, especially in the most difficult times of our lives," as per a note from Kensington Palace.

Letter from Catherine, Princess of Wales

"Dear Guest," she begins the letter,

"I am so delighted that you're able to join this Carol Service. I wanted to write and share my heartfelt thanks for all that you have done to provide comfort and hope to those who need it the most.

"Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year. It is a time for celebration and joy, but it also gives us the opportunity to slow down and reflect on the deeper things that connect us all. It is when we stop and take ourselves away from the pressures of daily life, that we find the space to live our lives with an open heart, with love, kindness and forgiveness - so much of what the Christmas spirit is all about."

The theme is especially poignant, considering the 42-year-old's year-long battle and recovery from cancer.

Guests at Westminster Abbey will be receiving the letter alongside their Order of Service, with community members who attend fifteen other community services across the UK also receiving the heartfelt gesture.
