The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in radio broadcast

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have taken part in a special radio broadcast to mark Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK.

Prince William and Kate Middleton took part in the minute-long message called Mental Health Minute which was broadcast across radio stations in the UK at 10.59am.

The main message was for people to support each other during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The royal couple were also joined by actor David Tennant, singer-songwriter Dua Lipa, footballer Harry Kane and boxer Anthony Joshua for the special event.

As part of the broadcast Prince William said: "We're all connected. And sometimes just talking about how you're feeling can make a big difference. So right now, let's join together across the UK and reach out to someone."

The Duke and Duchess took part in the message from their Norfolk home Anmer Hall, with the Duchess saying: "If you're struggling, it's important to talk about it. Or if someone you know is acting differently, it's OK to ask how they are. Use this moment to send a message."

The Mental Health Minute is produced by Radiocentre and Heads Together, a charity long supported by the young royals including the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been on the royal frontline since the coronavirus crisis began, stepping up while the Queen self-isolates at Windsor Castle.

They had previous shared a mental health message on the Kensington Royal Instagram page, saying: "Self-isolation and social distancing can pose huge challenges to our mental health — in recent weeks The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been in regular contact with organisations and patronages to understand the issues they are facing during this difficult time.

"Today Public Health England has published new guidance to help support people during the COVID-19 outbreak, and updated its world-leading Every Mind Matters platform, with specific advice on maintaining good mental wellbeing during the outbreak.

"Speaking about the new guidance, The Duke and Duchess said: 'It is great to see the mental health sector working together with the NHS to help people keep on top of their mental well-being.

"'By pulling together and taking simple steps each day, we can all be better prepared for the times ahead.'"
