Kate and William hire ex Meghan and Harry staffer

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have hired the man behind the Sussex Royal social media account, David Watkins, a digital communications expert.

Watkins originally worked for fashion brand Burberry before he was hired by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. He had worked for Meghan and Harry since July 2019, months after they launched their Sussex Royal Instagram account which gathered more than 11 million followers.

He will begin his new role on behalf of Prince William and Kate in April, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have 11.5 million followers on their Kensington Royal Instagram account and 1.9million on Twitter.

The couple supports several charity patronages with a focus on psychological and social support for children including BeatBullying, Centrepoint, the Child Bereavement Charity, Children In Crisis and Place2Be.

The Duke and Duchess also developed their own philanthropic work through their own organisation, The Royal Foundation, through which they provide additional support and mentoring to charity partners.

Since the departure of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from the royal family on March 31, Prince William and Kate Middleton have been joined by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall to step up their work in order to fill the void.

The Sussex's have since confirmed the formation of a new foundation independent of the British royal family called Archewell.
