James Blunt defends his friends Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had many celebrity friends rally around them in the days following their emotional revelations of their struggles in the past year.

The latest to come to their defence, is Prince Harry's long-time friend and fellow military man James Blunt.

During a TV interview on Good Morning Britain this week, the 45-year-old spoke highly of the couple and condemned the "vitriol" they had been receiving.

"What I think I can see is they seem to be on the cover of the newspapers a lot and it seems to be quite vitriolic quite a lot of the time," Blunt told co-hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shepherd.

The You're Beautiful singer who served alongside the Duke of Sussex in the British Army said the 35-year-old is a generous person who deserves more credit.

"Him, I know from the army, he's a very nice man, a really phenomenal soldier who does a lot of work for other people, for charities, for veterans, the Sentebale charity for children in Africa...I think under great scrutiny they seem to try a lot for other people.

"So, the vitriol seems a bit like leaning on bullying to me."

Blunt is a Patron for military charity Help For Heroes, which Prince Harry is regularly involved with and one of the charities which assisted the Royal in launching the Invictus Games.

The former X-Factor Australia judge was also one of the guests at Harry and Meghan's Royal Wedding at St George's Chapel last May, attending with his wife of five years, Sofia Wellesley.

The couple wed in 2014 and have two children.
